CHARACTER NAME: Heine Wittgenstein
CANON & HISTORY: Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine/The Royal Tutor

Little is known about Heine Wittgenstein's life before he arrived at Weisberg palace to serve as tutor to the kingdom's four young princes. Any details seem to be a closely guarded secret. One of his conditions for taking the position was to keep it secret, after all. All we know is that he is a close acquaintance of King Viktor von Glanzreich (enough that they apparently would drink together frequently - a fact that's kept under wraps for some reason), he never went to a university and that he taught at a church prior to his assignment at the palace. On his first day, it was clear he had his work cut out for him. None of the princes were willing to cooperate, neither were they willing to accept him as their teacher. Kai, the eldest of the four was the only one willing to as apparently his harsh features belie his gentle nature. All it took was a short test and an interview for him to win Bruno and Licht over. Leonhard, the prince most distrusting of tutors found he had no choice but to comply since he had no other allies left in his mission to throw out this latest teacher.

The daily education of the four princes began without a hitch but despite having earned the cooperation of the princes, there was still the lingering feeling of not having been accepted by them. However, the princes decide to welcome their new tutor with a meal they prepared themselves: venison hunted by Leonhard and cooked by Bruno and Kai served in a room decorated by Licht. Yet despite this welcome, Heine still couldn't shake the feeling that he didn't quite belong.

The day the princes' eldest brother, Eins returned to Glanzreich was supposed to be a day of celebration but it shaped up to be a day of great tension between the princelings and their eldest brother. In the time before Eins' return, a certain Count Rosenberg had made an appearance. From bringing Kai and Bruno's history at military school to exposing Licht's serving as a waiter at a local cafe and even looking into Heine's past, Roseberg had been working behind the scenes, attempting to sabotage the other princes in order to get them to give up their claim to the throne. This Rosenberg had introduced himself as Eins' head steward and had been by his side upon the eldest prince's arrival to the palace. After coldly rejecting a boquet of flowers his younger brothers had prepared, Eins took his leave. But not before Rosenberg hauling Heine over his shoulder and packing him away into Eins' carriage when the tutor had asked to speak to him about said sabotage attempts. Catching sight of the abduction, the princes gave chase and followed the carriage to Eins residence, Schwarz palace. Denying having had anything to do with the attempts at sabotage, the eldest prince had told Heine to cease pushing the "impossible goal of kingship" onto his siblings, not believing they had grown and now wanted a shot at the throne for their own reasons. At that moment, the princes had been discovered and were herded into the room where Heine and their brother had been talking. It was then where Eins issued a challenge to his siblings: "Get everything you can out of that royal tutor and prove that you can surpass me as candidate for king." Upon return to Weissberg palace, the princes reaffirmed their willingness to take up Eins' challenge and vowed not to lose against him and each other as rivals for the throne.

However as time passed, the princes found themselves no closer to the throne but further down their own paths: Kai returned to military school, Licht (after a long personal revelation) left the palace to become more self sufficient and Bruno had left to pursue studies abroad briefly. As Bruno's carriage pulls away to take him to the train, Leon remarks that he's starting to despise the sound of carriages.

AGE: Probably in his late 30s, looks to be about 14.
CANON POINT: ch 36, after Heine and the princes return to the palace from confronting Eins

PERSONALITY:
"I'm here to teach you, not try to win you over, your highness."

The first thing one would notice about Heine Wittgenstein is just how very small he is. Despite the fact he claims a seasoned mafia member that threatens to harm him and Prince Kai is younger than he is, he looks no older than 12 at the very least. From the guards mistaking him as a child on the first day of his appointment as Royal Tutor to being mistaken as Prince Licht's little brother while accompanying him on his cafe shifts, a day never passes without quips about Heine's height and boyish features. These little jabs are Heine's berzerk button so to speak and are what's certain to send him into a childish huffing frenzy. When it comes to his height, he will retaliate and harshly. No matter if you happen to be a prince or the king himself, you're either getting kicked in the face or pinched between the shoulderblades. Under normal circumstances, Heine is a serious man who rarely shows any emotion. He is also rather secretive and guarded, never speaking about himself or his past and dislikes close contact. This seriousness and stern face lend themselves very well to cementing Heine's resolve. Despite Leonhard's threats and everyone else's open hostility on his first day, he never backed down from his position as the royal tutor.

But despite his looks, he is a man more than capable of fulfilling his position as Royal Tutor. Knowledgeable in several fields (math, science, sociology, philosophy, you name it), his intellect was enough to earn the respect of Prince Bruno who had started to call him "master" after Heine had beaten him in several challenges. But it isn't just his book smarts that make him fit to teach. After all, he claimed to have studied as much as he could just to survive and never went to university.

The one defining factor that makes Heine such an excellent teacher is how he approaches his students. He doesn't rely on discipline nor is he too lax. His strength does rely on discipline but on reading his students and observing them, afterward adjusting his method to what best suits his student. He gets plenty of introspection, noting his first impressions as well as what he's heard about the person he's just met. He's also good at "reading" people which makes it easy for him to predict their actions and motives. As an example: when traditional teaching methods for math problems didn't work for Prince Leonhard, Heine chose to make examples using the prince's favorite sachertorte just so he could picture the problem better. The children he taught at the church commented that they liked how he taught them, never using hard words and making sure his lesson plan was appropriate to their age. His lessons aren't limited to the classroom, either. To help Kai with his communication skills, he suggested he start by thanking the maid who came to change his bedsheets daily. When Bruno had asked him what else a king needed to learn, Heine arranged for him to tutor those same children from the church. When the prince had grown exasperated over the childrens' questions and lost his temper, Heine threw out one simple question: "if you cannot teach a class of seven, how can you think to rule a country of millions?". When it comes to getting his lesson across, he's willing to do anything and take up any role until his students learn. Seeing a need for the princes to unite and consider their sister's feelings before confronting her, he willingly pretended to kidnap Princess Adelle to give them a common enemy.

Despite his thoughtful manner, Heine can be rather brutal and possesses a sharp tongue when the need arises. He isn't known to sugarcoat his words and will say it as it is. The way his face rarely shows any expression just drives the nail of his words in even deeper into its intended target. When a belaguered Leonhard mourns his poor grades, Heine tells him he has no one to blame but himself for running from the former tutors. He didn't hesitate to point out Licht barely knew anything about commoner life even when the prince was certain he did. He can be quite brutally blunt, especially toward Licht and Leonhard when the two princes have give him reason to be. But this isn't to say he's completely heartless. He's quick to offer advice and is willing to listen should any of the princes need it. He offers an ear to Bruno when he finds himself unable to decide which path to go down and Kai comes to him willingly to ask advice on how to better communicate. When Leonhard finds himself discouraged during a group art lesson, Heine willingly reveals his own inability to draw to boost the prince's morale at the cost of his own dignity.

POWERS:
-Is highly proficient in unarmed combat
-Very quick study.
-High survival instinct

OTHER:
-there has been no explanation for his appearance as of current canon so let's just chalk it up to "that's the punchline" until canon has proven otherwise
-anime and manga give Heine differing backstories. The anime goes into detail while the manga has only dropped hints. If possible, I might use bits of the anime to fill in the gaps until we get more answers.

GAME INFO;

MAGIC ABILITY: Can make small objects levitate. Objects have to be at a maximum of two feet away (vertically or horizontally) and have to fit in the palm of one's hand
PRICE: His teacher's pointer/riding crop
ACCLIMATION: 8 - While Heine has never experienced travelling between worlds, he is if anything, a survivor. Even if this place was to put him in an entirely new environment, he will do what he can to learn everything about it to survive and find a way back to Glanzreich.
